{"id":1325,"date":"2010-11-21T11:12:19","date_gmt":"2010-11-21T16:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.davehitt.com\/blog2\/?p=1325"},"modified":"2010-11-21T11:13:21","modified_gmt":"2010-11-21T16:13:21","slug":"could-you-run-this-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.davehitt.com\/blog2\/could-you-run-this-business\/","title":{"rendered":"Could You Run This Business?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Imagine that you had a business with the following business model:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The business has been in existence for over 200 years.<\/li>\n<li>Your logo and brand name is instantly recognized by approximately 100% of the people in the United States.<\/li>\n<li>You have a customer base of over a quarter of a billion people.\u00c2\u00a0 Nearly all of them use your service several times a week.\u00c2\u00a0 Many use it every business day.<\/li>\n<li>Millions of business are completely dependent on your services \u00e2\u20ac\u201c they couldn&#8217;t exist without them.<\/li>\n<li>Federal law prohibits anyone from opening a competing business offering your primary service.<\/li>\n<li>Most of your buildings are paid for.\u00c2\u00a0 All of them are free of any property tax.<\/li>\n<li>The pension fund for your employees is handled by a different agency, so it doesn&#8217;t affect your bottom line.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Think you could run a business with that model and make a profit?\u00c2\u00a0 Think a well trained <em>chimp <\/em>could run a business with that model and make a profit?\u00c2\u00a0 Most likely.\u00c2\u00a0 But the government can&#8217;t.\u00c2\u00a0 The Post Office lost $8.5 billion dollars this year.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s $4.7 billion more than last year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s shortfall.<\/p>\n<p>This is the same government that intends to take over health care.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;ll do a much better job with that, because, well, because some people imagine they can.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, that&#8217;ll work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Imagine that you had a business with the following business model: The business has been in existence for over 200 years.
